Neonatology

The role of a Neonatologist starts as soon as a child is born and generally extends up to 4 weeks (or more) following the birth. At Surya Hospital, we have a dedicated team of experts to take care of your baby with the same commitment and compassion as you would, because it is this care that lays the foundation of their healthier tomorrow. The Neonatology unit is outfitted to handle complex cases and excels in offering comprehensive care to every newborn. We are at the forefront of innovation and strive to offer patient-centric care, that keeps your baby’s comfort and safety at the forefront.

High-Risk Pregnancy:
High-Risk Pregnancies are seen in women who have existing health issues that can interfere with normal childbirth or negatively impact the health of the baby. You will be required to see a Neonatologist prior to the birthing procedure. The mother and the child are closely monitored to ensure timely medical action, if/when required.
Complications during childbirth:
Childbirth complication is an umbrella term used for any abnormal/adverse event that may occur when a mother is in labour or during delivery. Common Childbirth complications that may call for the need for a Neonatologist include failure to progress, heavy bleeding and placenta previa.
Baby is born with a congenital defect:
A congenital defect is a term used for a structural/functional abnormality that a child is born with. This can affect any organ or part of the child’s body, often giving rise to serious and potentially life-threatening complications. A Neonatologist will thoroughly assess your little one and curate the best treatment plan in coordination with other specialists
Premature birth:
A premature birth, also referred to as a preterm birth, means that a baby is born before the completion of 37 weeks of gestation. Around 13.4 babies are born preterm every year. Such babies require additional care and support to help them strive and to ensure their healthy future.
Neonatal sepsis:
It is a blood infection commonly seen in infants less than 28 days old. The condition is commonly seen in babies with preterm birth, low birth weight, and maternal infections. Neonatal Sepsis has been linked with potentially serious complications. It is typically caused by underlying viral, bacterial or fungal infections.
Chorioamnionitis
It is an inflammation in the placental membranes and chorion due to the infection of the fluids within the amniotic sac. Chorioamnionitis can happen during the course of pregnancy, at the time of labour or during the birth of your little one.
Respiratory distress syndrome

RDS is a condition seen in babies born preterm, before the completion of 28 weeks of gestation, and is linked to the underdevelopment of their lungs which are not capable of supporting normal breathing.
